i learned real quick that a Sit in is alot better than a sit on kayak i fished a kayak tourny in October with constant wind and a few showers and wave crashin in that thing just got me down right cold. if it would have been a sit in non of the waves would have got me. but they sure are fun to fish from. i eventually sold all my kayaks and canoes and got a boat but i have been looking at the sit in ascend to get back into kayak fishing a little

Welcome to Kayak fishing Nate! I haven't seen the ascend series yet, but I've heard alot of good things about it. It's a good sign that maybe the big stores are maybe getting the clue on what we need in a fishing kayak. Let us know how you like it, after you've put some time in.

watch how tight you get your tie downs when strapping it to your vehicle. When it's hot the plastic gets a little more pliable. If it gets warped then its a bit of a hastle to get it back to the way it was.

Hi, I bought the same kayak from BPS, got them to knock $50 off for the scratched-up floor model plus another 10% off with signing up for their credit card.

I like it! The hatch isn't exactly water-tight. It leaks not from the lid but the base that's riveted down. I put some silicone around it but after taking it in rough water again still a little bit of water gets in. I'm gonna get the hose out and see where it's leaking and give it another shot of silicone.

I like the SOT for summer fishing. Easy to jump out and take a swim to cool off then hop right back on without swamping. I can bring 4 rods with me. One on the front holder, two in back, plus another on the side channel while still being able to use the other side to tie down the paddle.

Did you glue the transducer inside the hull? I'd like to see pics!

Welcome to KAYAK FISHIN....Its a lot of fun, especially when you hook a big'un and you get towed...what a rush...Ive heard the ascends are made by ocean kayak for bass pro shops. If the quality is the same, you will be very pleased. I have owned two ocean kayaks. First one was a prowler big game and the one I fish from now is a trident 13. Check out my gallery. You might get some rigging ideas. Also, there are several kayak fishing websites with all kinds of 411 on yak fishin. TIGHT LINES!

Hi Tom, my MSO on the Ascend is from Tracker Marine. On the BPS Q&A page it says they are made in Lebanon, MO.

Nathan, I looked at your pictures, the installation looks good. I'd maybe want to mount mine in the smaller pocket because I sometimes set my plano box in the long one. It almost just fits, the hinges cause one side not to sit flush.

I've also been contemplating cutting a hole in the seat back area for a 6" hatch. I saw someone do it while looking at pics on google. I pushed the foam block all the way to the back and put some pool noodles outboard of the scupper hole molds for some more flotation.

I'm guessing you glued the transducer and set the battery in the front hatch area. If I work up the nerve to cut a hole for a hatch in the back I think I'm going to put mine back there. I stuff the front hatch area full with dry bags for camping.

I think I'm going to go ahead and drill out the top of the scupper holes that are molded into the seat area. After swimming I'm sitting in water.
