Trying out braid for the first time tonight. Got some 50lb test Spiderwire Stealth. My question is should I back this with mono or just straight spool it onto its own reel? I've got 150yds worth and will be on a river. Thanks! :cool2:

My suggestion would be stay away from that braided line all together.

Yes I would back it with a mono . Unless your reel only holds 150 yards if thats the case then I would use a couple feet of mono then spool the braid on .

I use a couple of turns of black elec tape but I use spinning reels. You need something for the braid to bite into so it doesnt just spin on the spool.I am not a big fan of any spiderwire though.

yes spool on some mono first. 150 yds isn't much though what size reel is it and how much 12lb mono would it hold?

It's an old Shakespeare combo 700 spinner reel. Not sure how much it would hold. What ratio do I want between braid and mono? I guess I would understand that better than a certain amount of feet or yards. Is there a way to measure how much you are putting on while you are spooling a reel? If so I haven't figured it out.... :embarassed:
