Me and Mickey hit a local pond yesterday. We had 5 inches of good clear ice and the temperature wasn't wasn't bad. We caught about 20 gills and a couple of bass. The gills were good size mostly with a few dinks mixed in. Biggest gill Mickey got was 12 inches and my biggest was 11 3/4, with both of us getting several in the 10-12 inch range. We used waxies and a variety of small jigs fished about 12-18 inches off the bottom. Usually we take a flasher with us but the battery was dead and had to find the fish the old fashion way, drill lots of holes and try them all till we find the fish.
A few pics of a few of the nice ones. I also took videos and am going to try to figure out how to post those to youtube.

believe it or not, every one of those gills slid right back down the hole that they came from, those fish are tropheys not to be eaten, i usually only keep em from 7-9" any bigger go back for seed,

yeah i fish a medium size lake and a guy who was local was catching 12 inch plus redears and 10 inch plus bluegills and laying the blade to them and fished about everyday, there wasnt any limit.well its about 3 years later and i run in to him and he says i dont catch them bulls anymore.Well no wonder like you said if you put the bigger ones back the seed wont be destroyed and the hey days might not ever come again .just like that with about any speices
