I launched Katyak for the first fishing outing on Friday, June 29. This was a convenient, 17-acre lake nearest my house, Lake Brittle. The weather was warm, not hot, with overcast skies and intermittent showers. The Katyak is a Heritage Redfish 12' Angler that I bought new at Hudson Trail Outfitters for a great price.

I worked three rods at one time, with each set up differently, trolling two and working one. I wasn't sure which one would hook up, for the fish seemed to be biting well and the shad were running in ripples on the surface of the lake.

Fortunately for a BOC member, a catfish would be the first to answer the call! At 20" and 3.5 lbs., this is on the upper end of what this lake will produce. By the way, I caught the catfish using Magic Bait Chicken Liver and Chicken Blood Bait.

I also caught a citation-worthy bluegill to round out the trip. Not a bad day of fishing on a bad-weather day!
