The bite in Central Oklahoma has been off. At least for me. Finally managed my first decent size cat of the year. It hit a bluegill head about 11:30 am on an overcast day. Almost lost the pole. I had it propped up on a five gallon bucket as the wife and I were packing up. I was reeling in another pole when it took off towards the water and all I could say was... Look at that pole (wife screamed get it! lol). Well I must have been half asleep when I tossed it out because I never engaged the spool after casting and it bird-nested on me. I was forced to land it by pulling the line through the 11ft pole, it was further complicated by it being close to 150 yds off shore. Long battle but fun.

Congrats on your 1st. Cat of the year Mark!! Sounds like you got lucky, considering the circumstances. A few years back, I witnessed over 4 rods and reels go into the water, because of WIPERS grabbing the bait. One gal was sitting reading a book, with the rod and reel between her legs and all of a sudden it was gone forever in the water. All I could do was laugh and see the expression on her face!! lol. need to use more common sense while fishing sometimes!!
