Anyone still have pics of your first boat? Here's mine...

Back in the mid 60's my Pa brought this Ouachita canoe home on top of the Volkswagen bus in Woodbridge VA. It was blue and pretty then. We went and fished Bull Run lake the next weekend and it was the first of many camping/ fishing trips we took. I found a Civil War Mini Ball while there and still have it in my treasures.

This photo was taken in 2019 in Coleman Falls VA in my Pa's yard the day before I buried him. The canoe had traveled to Arkansas and Mississippi only to return back to Virginia in the 5+ decades he owned it.

I left it there in the weeds, because memories are all we are, and all we leave behind.

I have had a multitude of boats over the years and grew up using my mom's boat. Those were small flat bottom boats perfect for the small lakes in southern Indiana. The first boat that I owned was a 14 ft flat bottom. I couldn't tell you the brand name and I don't have any pictures of it. I trailered it from Indiana to Colorado, then down thru Laredo Texas and on to the Panama Canal Zone. I have always been amazed that those small trailer wheels rolled all the way to Panama without having any problems.

Back before i had a cell phone, a guy at a yard sale here in town had a little 12' v bottom with a rigged up pvc duck blind and a little trailer. He was asking 200 if i recall, think i got it for 125. Used it very little because the electric trolling motor was terrible lol

I honestly can't be sure what my first boat was. As far as a power boat, I had a Lafitte Skiff for running crab traps in '73. That was a first. Prior to that I had a homeade rowboat, several pirogues made of plywood, etc...
Some years ago, I had an old Sears aluminum "semi-vee", if that is what it's called. Had a Mercury 9.9hp and a Min Kota trolling motor. I sold it for a song cause I wasn't using it and I have regretted it many times since.

I wish I had some pictures of my first boat. It was made in 1930's and made of galvanized steel. That little 12' boat was a heavy little sucker. I was basically given it by a older guy that lived on the lake I fished on when I was a kid. Me and my fishing buddy were out on that little boat all of the time back when we were kids
