Well guys. I finally got a decent sized Flathead. I don't have a scale, but the fish was 37-38 inches long! I couldn't believe it. A buddy of mine and I were fishing a low head dam on the North Coon with various baits. We had a couple gills and cut baits out there, but this monster was caught on the traditional crawler. Later in the day I hit up the Des Moines river and had a monster bite on my 6" gill, althought I think I jump the gun on setting the hook. Oh well.

    Here on some pics.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Oh yeah.. Anyone know how much this fish might weigh? I was thinking in the 25# region? Definitely felt heavier than a 25# dumbell though!

I'm not 100% sure but I believe it's 14# spiderwire or fireline, however, its braided. I really need to get some new line, this stuff is at least 2 years old.

Nice looking fish you got there. Congratulations! I switched hooks a couple years ago to a 7/0 to 10/0 Eagle Claw King Kahle and haven't worried about jumping the gun since. It is a great hook that almost always hooks up quick.

    Nice fish Brando!

You look like a big dude, I'd say a 22lb fish (thin cause of spawn).

Congrats on the first and many more.

Yeah, I didn't have a net... So I pretty much dragged onto the sandbar.

Funny story, I ended carrying it 15 feet away from the water just in case it decided to go back to its home before I got my camera out... and now smells like fish.. lol
