In less than two weeks 3 of us boc brothers will be hitting the ohio river in Derby Indiana. While I have caught shad here and can use a cast net pretty good I am not sure how to go about finding shad for our trip. I have a few ideas but was hoping the Eric and Darrell could point some places to try. I thought that the mouth of poision creek and around the bots ramps would be a place to start. I have a good depthfinder now but usually when I have found bait clouds we would throw the cast net with little to no bait caught. Is there a time in the year when throwing the cast nets in these spots is better than the other. Any help would be great. Thanks boc brothers.

If you get on the water just as the sun is coming up, usually they're going crazy at that time and are easy to catch. The mouth of Poison creek should be a good place to catch them, and also around boat docks. I catch mostly skipjacks though. As for the cast nets, I haven't had very much luck with them either. I think the most Ive ever caught was maybe 2 fish with one of those. Then again I dont have a boat lol.

Ive looked around and found a few links with some tips about catching shad as well. You might like em.
