Finding holes

    Besides depth finders what is everyones method for finding deep holes in a medium size river?

    Read the water. Look for places where maybe the river narrows more so then normal where it forces more water threw an area.

    Outside bends will usually have a little deeper water as well.

    Got to stay with the basics.... riffles... holes.... runs....outside bends... bait fish.. birds

    In the middle of the river nomally be deeper.

    Not necessarily sometimes the channel is right a long the bank. I have been stuck on sand bars in as plum middle as you can get on the missouri river.

    Riffles, outside bends, and anywhere the bank juts out into the water will usually have a hole downstream from it. I've also found some good holes downstream from bridge abutments/pillars. All the better if the hole has timber.
