When looking deep for crappie. How do you know when you have found them on your depth finder? Are they always suspended?

You won't be able to pick up a crappie laying on the bottom, so you are looking for suspended fish. Generally crappie suspend vertically in the water column and white bass will suspend horizontally. Locator's are great of finding crappie suspended on channel breaks or hanging around brush piles, but scattered on the flats or buried in the brush leave fish finders lacking. If you find an open water brush pile(especially if it's near a channel) you better fish it fish seen or not.
