I found a 12 ft surf rod at meijer today, and it was 30% percent off so I just couldnt pass it up ( it was only 32 bucks ) it looks good, it is made by Penn, and casts 4-10oz. of weight, and mono up to (i believe it said either 30, or 50 lb)... I hope to try it out tonight, or tomorrow night, I finally found a spot that I can cast my 8 footer overhanded, and ill be able to cast this one over handed also, so with a spinning reel and 50lb braid, what should i gain mabye 20 or 30 yards???

Ill let you know how it dose

I don't know how much you can gain but you might want to check out the release cannon thing so you don't cut your finger off when you cast. If that line slips, ouch.

well i couldnt find anything about the cannon thing, but i did gain about 50% on my casting distance, it was amazing, where with my 8ft i was struggling to reach the middle of the river, i effortlessly casted to the other bank, when not even trying, its amazing...

Bagnell Dam retains Lake of the Ozarks (which begins below Truman Dam).

if you go to the heavy weights and realy put some oomp into your cast you need to get a leather glove to ware or you are going to cut your self and once that braid gets through the skin it realy cuts.be careful.

I've got a 12' Beefstick (3 piece spinning) and I love it. Using 65# PowerPro braid and a Penn 850SS reel. I've had as much as 12oz of weight (plus bait) but never had any problem with cutting my finger...guess I'm not heaving it far enough. With that rod, there isn't much need to heave the bait -- it just lobs it out there.

I've actually never fished there or spent much time on the lower part of the lake -- what's the crow's nest?

That would be a great rod for the 7000 you are trying to get rid of, thats what I use .

the crow's nest was a combination bait ,hot dog , and souvenior shop at the base of bagnell dam.
