Finally found the shad!!

    finnally found the shad, below a dam, man there fun to catch on super light tackle!!!!

    They were not gizzard shad like we are probably used to catching on the Mississippi but there are types of shad that get up to a couple of pounds and will eat minnows.

    Proly Gizzard shad. It's what we have in TX. What did you catch them on?

    we catch them on treble hook and hard hook set some times

    i caught em on a little crappie jig deal, i remember seing bill dance or someone fishing for em on TV, so i tried, i caught a ton, also caught alot in the cast net, im pretty sure they where gizzard shad, for those of you who live in N.TX it was below lake lavon dam, they sure where easy/fun to catch, and when fishing with rod and reel you get alot of the bigger ones!!! ill try and post a pic of the rig i used if i remember how to put a picture in a post...

    aha i figured out the lure i used, it was a bass pro bailey magnet crappie lure, i bought the kit from bass pro... it was on a pink body with a white skirt... most of the shad i caught on it where 6-13 inches long, lots of them, i fished it with a small split shot sinker about 1-2 feet above the lure, i used trout hooks that where pretty small, it was a fun way to catch bait...
