I had quite a drought going as I had not caught any Flatheads the entire month of July. I don't know what to attribute it to, lack of skill because this is my first year fishing exclusively for Flats, or maybe it was the spawn. Either way, the drought has ended and I have land 3 Flats in 3 consecutive fishing trips. The first was a 23lb caught on 8/9. I also caught a PB channel of 11lbs that night. The next was 44lbs caught on 8/15. The next was 38lbs caught on 8/16. All three were caught on 7" goldfish - I had bluegill out, but they didn't touch them. When I hooked into the 38 last night, I was sure it was 50+ because it was so much harder to bring in than the 44 the night before. The 44 was male and the 38 was a female, so I guess I can attibute that to her fiestiness.:smile2: Anyway, my Flat total is 7 for the summer - 23lb, 38lb, 38lb, 41lb, 44lb, 53lb and 57lb. I would love to get one more 50+ before the season ends in a couple of months. If I don't catch another though, I will still be happy.
