If you could only own one rod and one reel for the rest of your life, what would your "set up" be?
thats too easy abu 7000 on a 7' tiger ugly stick
7000 on an ECAT...Thats my favorite
Zebco 888 on a 8ft Gator Custom Rod
Gota agre with riverking the big e-cat and a amb7000 had one stoled back in Texas but i think I have found a replacement got a gator rod on the way and have an amb9000 to put on it.
Quantum xtra lite 6.5ft rod matched with a shimano reel (what ever i have on it now works really well) and 4 lb test... I know its ultra light tackle but it makes those "small" fish feel good, the good fish feel huge and the huge fish feel impossibly huge but not unlandable...
I couldn't do it, I like to have a varied arsenal, It is alot of fun hooking into a 10-12 lb carp on an ultralight! But if I had to choose one it would be my 8ft Berkley Big Game with my SouthBend spinning reel spooled with 17 lb Cajun Line. Its my bargain bin setup $45 with everything listed above!
The improved 2006 Abu 6500 c3, and a ugly stik tiger rod medium action.
You didn't specify whether it's a catfish only setup or not, so I would have to do some research on that one. I can tell you it would be a medium light combo, probably spinning combo. I can catch bait, food, and if I really do things right still land a biggun.
If it's catfish only, I think I have it:
Shimano Baitrunner 6500 on a 12' Heavy Ugly Stik. 12' seems to be the perfect size for me, at least on these rods. I can handle it fairly well and the handle is just the right length.
At least until I get to try a custom rod.
7000 c3 with a Surge rod...
I like my medium heavy tiger rods with penn reels spooled with 50 lb mason braid line. I only fish for catfish from a boat but I feel that combo will handle anything I want to fish for. If I bank fish I would probably use longer rods for casting.
8' H-action Mod.-power St.Croix, Premier musky rod! With a Shimano stella reel. Hmmm...
Abu 6500 c3 on a 1 peice meat hunter rod for boat fishing but if Im stuck on the bank it woul be a Abu 7000 on a 14 ft. fenwick rod.
Kinda of an unfair question, are we talking strictly catfishing? If so I realy like my h20 open face spin combo. Great for big cats as well as big stripers, as a matter of fact anything that is big.
6500 abu c3 on a 9ft night stick or a ugly stick tiger rod with 20 big game line
I would hang myself.Do I have my 14' Fenwick w/abu7000 or my ug stk w/abu6500 or my tiger rod w/shmano baitrunner..ect ect ect ect.......... NOPE just hang me......
without a adoubt my 6500 C3 on a Ugly Stik tiger rod or Rhino Rod.
For hogging it would be the one I have now. A 209 Penn on a medium/heavy sturdy stick with 80lb line, but anyone can catch big fish on that. So I would have to say my Tica LH8000 on a mh ugly stick cat. Finessing huge flats is a ball. Vern
I would hate to be limited to just one but this would be my choices. My six and a half foot ultra-light Ugly Stik, maybe a longer one even but this is the longest ultra-light one I've found. My reel would definitely be a Shimano and probably the model would be a Solstace.
7'6 bass pro micro-lite, small shimano spinning reel, 4 pound test sufix.
