I prefer cut bait to fish for channels with but in a pinch I have found shrimp to be a good second choice. I was wandering what else every on uses?

I use guts from a local packer for a lot of my channels. But, cutbait is my favorite too.

I like pieces of chicken soaked in garlic and parmesian cheese.

If you find using good chicken to be too expensive (which i agree) try this. find a local 'mom and pop' store that sells meat. Ask them for their chicken that has expired. Big stores like Wal Mart will not do this, but i gained the trust of a local butcher that i was not eating this and he now gives me leftover chicken whenever i stop in. hope this helps!

livers, shrimp, bacon and anything else I havn't tried yet. I have tried pork sausage, kidney, tilapia, hot dogs, raw pork skin and snout, cow brain and tripe. the tilapia and brain wouldn't stay on the hook though.

I prefer Cut or live threadfin herring, but if not available I will use Chicken Livers. I have found oddly enought though that when I use live shad I catch smaller fish.....I can cut the same fish in half and catch monsters!!

    Shrimp works for me.
Smothing new I've found is Special Kitty cat food slide about 13 pieces on a 2/0 Kahle hook and chum with the little triangles fish it on the bottom if you get a little jiggle set the hook.
I caught 17 channels last weekend biggest one over 9#s had 3 gallon bags of fillets to show for it. Using SPECIAL KITTY!

I'll have to go with chicken livers, then shrimp, due to it being expensive up here. Tub of Chicken livers-$1.64; Raw Shrimp-$7-8.00 a bag.

Well, it was just chicken liver. But now I gotta go buy some shrimp, and maybe that cat food idea. Anything to supplement the cut baits.
