Herring, shad and shiners. The herring and shad work year round the shiners seem to work best in the spring and fall, for me anyway

Jason, how big do you cut your chicken breast filets? Do you let the chicken get a little rank before using, or do you use it fresh?

I fish 3 poles and in this order:

    1. Danny Kings (original)
    2. Cut bait (Shad or chovie), liver, clam
    3. Liver or clob of home raised fat red worms

I also use on occasion, minnows, Sonnys, small bluegill, carne asada, crawdads.

I usually try as many as I can to find out what is working. Chicken Liver, cut shad or chubs, and live shad or chubs all seam to work well in warmer weather. For some reason, as it cooldsdown, it seems like chicken liver or other commercial blood baits work better.

All that I get are Channels in the California Delta, so:

In the fall & winter: it's cut bait (Shad or Bluegills).

    In the spring & summer: it's stink-bait (Wicked Sticky) & Minnows.

Mostly, I use bluegill, live or cut. My biggest channels and blues come on gill heads. I also use shad when I can get it...better luck where I fish netting gills. Sometimes, I carry shrimp for when the bait gets hard to find.
