Spent the the last two mornings out at Falls Lake. First day I took my g/f out and the second day I took out one of my bass fishing friends. Report was pretty much the same both days....water was hot, I was hot, and the perch fishing was hot! haha. Catfishing was pretty good too though....caught lots of channels and a few white catfish. Most fish were in the 1-3 lb range, but we had a couple of nicer fish as well. We anchored and drifted, having the best luck on long points and flats that were close to the channel. Seemed like 10-12 feet was the magic depth. Shad and baitfish were EVERYWHERE. I also caught a couple of nice bass on cutbait which ticked off my bass fishing buddy! haha. He brought a couple of bass rods with him, but quickly realized that the cats/perch were keeping him too busy to do any real bass fishing. I got a good laugh because before it was over he ended up tying cat rigs onto his bass rods, hahaha. I think I might have converted him, except for the fact that he was more afraid of the catfish than my gf!! haha...ill never let him live that down. Tight lines

oh...and a couple more things I forgot to mention. Preferred bait seemed to be gizzard shad and bluegill. For some reason the cats weren't interested in the white perch. The crazy thing is that last week, perch seemed to be the only thing that would catch em. Some finicky fish sometimes, I tell you.
Also I included a few more pics. Since I often see people asking what a white catfish looks like, I thought this might help give a little clarification. Notice how wide the mouth is compared to a channel or a blue. Also the pictures don't do it justice, but the fish has a large head compared to the size of its body. Also note that contrary to their name, they are often darker in color than a channel or blue.

Thanks for the report. I was out on Falls last night from 7:30pm-1:30am and we landed around 10. Nothing over 3 pounds. We anchored up at the bridge and casted towards the shallows and pulled about 6 from there. We then drifted the flats for a bit and landed 4 doing that. All we used was shad. We used whole shad that were real small, and cut shad with the bigger shad we caught. Were were you putting in the last 2 days?

I usually put in at Ledge Rock, what about you? I'd be surprised if we haven't passed each other at some point. I think you and I are probably about the only people out there who are targeting cats, haha. Im gonna be out of town the next couple of weeks, but when I get back we should combine our powers and do a little trip out there. I can be in the water there in like 15 minutes, so im always down for a few hours of fishing. Thanks for the report

I used to always put in at 98 because it is closest to home, but I have been putting in at Hickory Hill lately, although I did launch at Ledge Rock about a week ago. A trip could be fun, I think I could learn a few things from you when it come to catching cats on falls. I know they don't get that big out there, but I have lately been interested in seeing what I can manage to pull out of there.

Likewise man. There are always new things to learn, even on the same old body of water. That's why fishing with other people is so awesome. And even though Falls isn't loaded with 50 pounders, you can apply the same techniques and patterns to other bodies of water that are loaded with monsters. Anyways, Ill hit you up sometime in a few weeks when I get back from vacation. later

Wes, Did you use the head on the bluegill? I've used them at Belews Lake with no luck. Not even a nibble. Glad you had a successful outing!
The heads can work very well. Dont give up using them. I seem to catch the bigger ones on heads some of the time.

yeah...i agree with Brett. You probably don't get as many bites, but in my experience Ive caught bigger fish on heads. I've been told that the heads have more oils in them, therefore more scent, but I don't know how much truth there is to that.

If you have enough bait, I would change em out pretty often. That being said, I have had bites on heads after they have been water logged for more than 3 hours... (not an exaggeration)

BTW, I am loving your new photo Holliswood : )
