Went panfishing yesterday, reservoir is WAY up into the trees and such, lots of warm shallow water. Every cove we pulled into had over a dozen gar in it swimming next to the boat, under trees, in the middle, etc etc and one of the hollers we went into which eventually turns into a creek must have had 50+ longnose gar in it. I was using a medium-light spinning outfit with 10lb, small treble hood and a frayed piece of rope on it and when tossing it out they would sometimes turn, approach it then just keep on going, we had a few chase bluegill to the boat we had caught so i hooked on a smaller bluegill and still had no luck on that, we tried several plastics my buddy had, some of our crickets and pretty much everything in the boat we could and had zero luck.

I havnt ever fished purposely for gar but my uncle has a few times. He seemed to have luck on spinner baits he would retrieve at the surface.
