evinrude 50 tilt

    guys, I have a 50hp evinrude I think its a 96 model, the tilt will not go up all of the way, how do U check the oil level and what fluid do U use to fill it with. I checked the forum and this problem was not discussed there. think for any and all feed back

    It needs to be up all the way to check the fluid.

    Find the manual release screw. It should be on the side in the area of the trim pump. Turn it counter clockwise about 2 full turns, lift the engine and set the lock.

    Open the reservoir and fill it with either trim and tilt fluid, or the more easily accesable, dextron 3 tranny fluid.

    Recap the reservoir, tighten up the manual release, and cycle the engine up and down a few times to purge the air.

    Look for leaks.

    Worked great it was low, a little transmission fluid did the trick, thanks again for coming to my rescue
