We took Saturday night off (flat out beat from fishing Friday night and then Saturday with the Skipeye family ) so Eric and I decided to give 'er a try last night.

Night got off to a bad start when I missed the turn to Cooley from talking on the phone. Instead of trying to find a place to turn around we said the heck with it and just kept going to La Benite.

Got set up and hit a small channel fairly early which Eric brought in like a champ. I was kind of bummed to have dink channels at this spot so I asked big E what he wanted to do. He said "move", so I hauled anchor and we went to the next spot.

Got set up and got our sleeping bags out and just as I was dreaming of a big steaming plate of fried Asian carp and a cold Natty Lite one of the clickers starts going nuts. Turned out to be a 45# blue. P and R'ed him (without a drop of slime on our sleeping bags, by the way ) and went back to sawing logs.

Alarm went off this morning and as Eric and I were debating the merits of sleeping another half an hour or going home (I was for sleeping, he wanted to watch cartoons) the outside rod takes a bump. I told Eric to get it and then the fish got serious and headed for Alton at a high rate of speed, taking a bunch of line with him. Eric decided I could have him after seeing that so after quite a tussle we got him in. Eric handled first mate duties with his usual skill and made it MUCH easier to get him in the boat. Turned out to be a 75# blue out for a morning snack.

All in all a good night - best night I've had out on the big MO in awhile.

Moral of the story - when the 10 year old says change spots, ya might want to listen:smile2:
