2008 Mercury, when running the boat the starter battery goes dead. I can switch to the back up battery and the engine kills the second battery as well. The battery only dies when the engine is running, and does it to brand new batteries as well. It usually takes about 15 min-30 min of running areound to drain the battery and the engine dies. I have followed all the wires and noticed nothing wrong, both batteries are able to hold full charges. I'm thinkning that it's an alternator problem. ANy input or ideas would be nice. Thanks

I would say with out checking it that the voltage regulator is gone out.

I agree with Will, Your alternator is not working at all and just pulling from the battery all the time to keep the motor running. The regulator needs replacing if it can be.

If the rectifier is shorted out it will drain a battery fast.
