#1 is cast netting for Shad legal or do you need a special license in VA.

#2 What's the best way to catch eels around here.

I'm new to catfishing on the east coast and bait is pricey to say the least.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Get a regulations book and check to see what the laws are is the best way to find out about the shad.I don't know about eels the only time I catch any is when I;m fishing saltwater and they usualy bite on shrimp.

No license needed for cast netting...you do need one if you use a gill net.

Are you fishing the bottom or in between?

The Eels can be caught in rivers and lakes, however i only catch them at a local lake either on minnows or glow worms. They have them at every bait shop I go to: $2.99 each live or $3.99 for a frozen bag of the chunks. I have caught fish on both live and chunks but the chunks work best for me.
