I am from northern Indiana and am thinking about heading down to flathead fish the White around Shoals and Montgomery on the week of the fourth. i have never fished the east fork but am looking forward to trying it out. Any advice would be appreciated but the main thing i am wondering is if all the flaties will be spawning and if it would be worth coming down at that time.

Thanks!!

I expect as soon as the water gets back to normal they'll be jumping on the nest post haste no doubt.... entire month of July always sucks for the bigger ones in the White.... the smaller 5 or so lber's are catchable, but definately not worth going outta the way for imo.

Dr.Peper nailed it. I'd put it off for a month or two or come down May/June next year.

But there are lots of other fish to go after in the river.

why not fish the Wabash? it has what your looking for and is closer to home! hit the area from Logansport to Lafayette. some big flats roam that river section brother. ;) with all the rains we have had this spring, there should be some good upstream migration too! that means fresh fish have more than likely moved into the area. they will more than likely stay, after spawn and through fall, if food and cover needs are met.

dont forget the occasional big blue that guys catch over there too!

I am heading to the Wabash next weekend launching at the Georgetown ramp. I have had good luck in the past fishing the Wabash but havent been down there for a couple of years. the only reason that i asked about the White instead id because I have a friend that has a camped down by Glendale FWA that i can use anytime for free. Thanks for all the info!!!
