The highest level of drought conditions has just been issued (10-04-07) for the Catawba River chain. The new level is D4-Exceptional Drought. It looks like Lake James will suffer first as they are currently pulling it down 1' every three days to supply those below Lake James ( LH, LKN, Mtn. Island and Wylie), according to the news release. It looks like it is going to get worser (down East word) before it gets better.

I placed a long stake at the water edge of my property five days ago to monitor the lake levels on LKN. The water has more or less stayed at or near the stake for the past five days. So, it appears that the news release is correct about Lake James furnishing water to the lower lakes. Mac
