I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I thought you all might like to read it and I'll try to post some photos. Did you ener wonder how many fish there are in a 1 1/2 acre pond? My buddy who lets me catch bait in his, decided to drain his and have it cleaned out as cattails were taking over and it had a leak. I got the chance to get right in there with a net and catch more fish than you could ever imagine. There was a grass carp about three feet long which we put in a neibors pond as well as a white channel cat which weighed ten pounds. Prabably 100 or so bass from 1-5 lbs. I fileted so many hybred bluegills I lost count and filled my wifes flower bed pond with bait sized gills. I've heard some pond owners say they were afraid people would catch all the bluegill in their pond, I know now that just isn't possible. I would venture a guess of ten to twenty thousand bluegills in this pond ranging in size from one inch to maybe eight or nine inchs.

Thanks Mark for sharing this good post. Small ponds will surprise most people if they have been maintained.

Yeah , I too have been to ponds and wondered what all is living in them.
Especially in the spring when everything wakes up from winter.
I saw a 5 foot carp in one pond I bass fish in from time to time.
    It was truly amazing.

We did take a lot of the larger bass and the cat and the carp to a pond that was right across the road. That's my other "bait" pond.

I bet the white catfish was well fed in all those baitfish.

I am looking forward to having my very own bait pond some day!! The thought of never having to worry about live bait are the things dreams are made of

That white cat was purchased from a pet shop about ten years ago, it was about four inchs long at the time. It must have been eating well cause it now weighs ten pounds.
