Douglas county lake can be at times a real mystery. There be days you cacth everything in the lake then on others you can't a old dirty boot. The shad population is growing in the lake. I cast netted and caught 5 nices shad about from 3 to 8 inches.

First and foremost hello all, please be patient with me as this is my first time on here and I hope to not misconduct myself in any way, that being said I'll get started.I actually live about 2 miles from Douglas state fishing lake,I have wasted many days trying to find fish on this lake, being born and raised in this area I have at least tried for about fifteen years,"yeah, quick learner" and never had much luck on it.I've tried from a boat, from the bank, all different kinds of bait and can probably still count the number of fish I've caught on one hand, now something is in there and I've seen them swimming and you can see the shad in schools but I never do very good at this place,it's really a shame too, anyone who has seen this lake can testify that it really does appear to be a good lake visually, can someone please reassure me that I am not the only one that is jinxed on this lake????

Jakeomatic, You mentioned shad being present in the lake. That is a good place to start with, if you don't have a cast net, get one. If there are cats in the lake, you can bet that shad are a large part of their diet. I've never been to this lake, is there a lot of pressure on it.

Welcome aboard

HI there jakeOmatic. I too live 2 miles from the lake. I live in the vinland area. I fish douglas lake all the time sometimes, I cacth some nice cats and sometimes I think all the fish got mad and walked, to another lake. The water is prime for fishing, But i tell you a theory a buddy and me came up with. For the longest time they had feeders at the lake.Feeding the cats know the cats are relying on shad and other fish for food. cause the feeeders are gone But the feeder option is only a theory. But the fish should be getting bigger and give us more bait options to us.

Individualist, thanks for the welcome,as for the cast net,I have one but am still practicing with it,so far I've caught alot of water!!!!As far as pressure on the lake there are always a couple of people there but I never really thought it was too bad, alot of this lake isn't even accessible without a boat,if you see the reply that bigbear listed there used to be some fish feeders but on the KDWP website "I think it was on there" it said that they were vandalized!! That really urks me that somebody would do that, even if I wasn't a fisherman.Bigbear, now you have my curiosity as I too live in the Vinland area,in coal creek estates as far as that goes, you fish alot of other local lakes too?I am heading for Clinton lake for most of this weekend as I usually do pretty good there "and who can afford to drive too far anyway" that god the boat doesn't use much gas!!!!! Good luck this weekend guys,I'll be on here occasionally and update you on Clinton Friday night or Saturday.Heading to work.See ya'

jakeo matic. hello. i have fished this lake a lot with my step father we have caught them from 51 pounds (flathead) to 25 pound channels out of this lake it is a slow lake at best, now me and my buddy(big bear fireman) fish it pretty often, its a hard lake to figure out i think alot of that is due to all the feeders this lake used to have but know with them gone the fish are haveing to fend for them selves more,i like to fish of the rocks arms alot and have caught my best fish there, i use alot of freash shad and bluegills in this lake, i hope that helps
