does any one use traps for catfish
I've never seen a trap designed for catfish.
Not legal here in Iowa.
Hoop Nets and Baskets,,, mostly commercial fisherman use these.
Nylon Net Company in TN has them all,,,, they have a web site,,,, they also have hooks the cheapest for trot lines.
I have a few old Hoop Nets hanging in the garage but havent used them they are old and probably not even worth using . I collect alot of fishing stuff that i never use .
Yeah there are several differant types of traps and in my state Mississippi you have to have a com. fishing license and a $30 tag for each trap.
Here is an example of a really good trap called a wooden "slot trap" there are also regulations on the size and number of enterances and slots in the traps.
How big are those traps? do you bait them or just use them during nesting season? How deep is the water you set them in? Just curious. I've used hoops but never wodden traps. They look like they would be effective.
Traps, barrels etc.. are illegal to use here as well. Just be sure to check your regulations before spending the money.
fish trap are illegal in IL. also.big$$$ fine .
Here in Illinois we call them baskets and they are used alot at the right time of the year on the IL. and the Miss rivers. They measure about 6 foot long and are 14 inches square,in the south they use round ones but work the same. You use bait like cheese and put in a female channel cat and i will tell you the fish pack them selfs in there. There is a angled throat at one end and a door at the other to remove the fish.Use them right befor the spawn and during this is best.We used to run lines nets and baskets years ago but dont any more as we get all we want with pole a line.We dont sell fish anymore like back then.Sometimes we would bring in 1000# of channel a week not counting all the buffalo and carp. It is best to put three in a string and use a crank or now a days a electric wench to pull them up.
well man me and my buddies built a couple of traps and thay work good
Highly illegal in Missouri
just bumpin' it up
