    Here is the "can-o-worms"
We had a catfishing tournament for a local church to raise money for the youth group..no big deal it happens all the time..but then someone suggested it was a form of gambling and that the church shouldn't do it.. money was paid to enter and money was paid out for the prizes..I say he was right, there is a gamble but there is also skill involved..not unlike a poker game..but how many churches do you see having poker games?? I pose this question to you and your thought!! thanks!

I think it's a worst wrong to dismiss another persons idea with out a better proposal of your own.

I think that it was for a good cause. So gaming or not it has a purpose other than filling the pockets of people. More importantly you can never go wrong with a giant mess of fish for the grease:big_smile:

Every time you go fishing it's a gamble! I wouldn't consider tournament fishing gambling, people betting on the side would be gambling.??:confused2:

How can ya live with the shame? The nice thing about soap boxes is the extra leverage ya get on yer swing in knocking the would be christian off it when they come up with a really stupid accusation.

Id say it was gambling but its up to the church, Ive seen plenty of churches have gambling at their picnics not to mention their casino nights. Anytime you put down money in hopes of winning money or prizes it sounds like gambling to me, imho. Overall it sounds like a great thing for the church.

    Question????
Are there any farmers in the congragation???
Farmers are the biggest gamblers in the world, LOL!!! Maybe they should think before they open their trap, LOL!!! As was previously stated...Life is a gamble.....you just have to make the best with the cards you are delt!!!!!

I would consider this tournament a fund raiser with no gambling involved. The church was benifited not only from entry fees but also getting free fish for the fish fry. If someone gets into tournament fishing thinking he is going to get rich, he is in the tournament for the wrong reasons to start with in my opinion. Tournament fishing to me is more about the comradery and the razzing between fellow catmen, learning from others as well as teaching others what i've learned. Then on any given day and weather conditions matching your skills against others skills and see who can catch the best stringer of fish. And whether me and my partner came in 1st or 41st i had the same amount of fun fishing the tournament and hopefully came away with some knowledge that i didn't know. As far as the one that was griping all i can say is there is one in every crowd and you would be surprised where you will see some of those so called christians on Saturday night:wink:.

Whose religion we talking about here? Is there one that says you can't gamble and one that says you can? Is the one that says you can't, the right one? Is the one that says you shouldn't step on bugs the right one? Is the one that says women must be covered from head to toe the right one? Is the one that says you can't dance the right one? What about my religion, the one I believe in, is it right for you? And if it isn't will you pray for me, sinner that I am. Just which religion are we talking about here?
