I was wondering if they shut down totally in winter
They aren't as active but they don't shut down. I catch some of my biggest carp in winter. Depending on the water temp and weather, they will feed more actively at certain times.
they will bite anytime you want to fish for them here in indiana but it seems there are fewer than there once was seem like all fish are dispearing slowly even carp
i caught my pb carp, 34#, in jan in the new river on a nightcrawler
carp REALLY like warm spots in the river. my warm water discharge spot is stuffed to the gill with bass and carp in lower water.
No they still bite.
Carp bite year around.
