Shoot it, Shoot it! Then.... shoot it some more.

I think we need to go out & try to get rid of as many of these things as we can. But then again, the GMR is a freakin turtle magnet.

Dink, don't shoot your thumb off. I cut there heads off, more satisfaction that way. soft shells are good eating.

Some people kill the turtle and then scald them with hot water and peel off the outer layer.Trim off head and claws.Butcher.They boiled the pieces until tender, then flour and fry.Also.Brown meat with or without flour.Make
gravy thin to keep from sticking.Add browned meat to gravy and simmer until tender.Never know till you give it a try.The Soft shelled were much prized by some. The soft shelled were more often treated like tough chickens and the snappers like beef. They also keep well alive.I see that you know the correct gun to use while shooting a turtle in your hand.I once heard of a fellow shooting the wrong finger off when a snapper had him by the finger. His buddies finely cut the turtle off of his finger when they were able to get the gun away from him.He said that it didn;t hurt until he sobered up.He gave that as the reason for staying drunk all week until it healed.peewee-williams

Heck, that's a waste! Start keeping them and then selling them to the pet market. A SMALL soft shelled turle goes for about $15 retail out here in California, so those big ones would likely make you some good money! Just think about all the fishing gear you could buy with the money you make from selling them!!

sure wish i could find some "orientals" around here who would buy them as well! if so i would target the exclusively to thin them out. last year i set out a 50 hook trottline for channels and 25 hooks had a softshell on it. thankfully, since the line was weighted, they all drowned:smile2:
