dehydrated bait

    anybody ever try one of those food dehydrators for drying out shad or skipjack to preserve them for bait? seems to me if you could dry them out till they were like jerky, they would still hold all their oils and smelly stuff and all, but would be tough to stay on a hook, and easy to keep without turning to mush. I dont have a food dehydrator or id try this myself! seems like it would work...

    My wife will let me get away with a lot of things when it comes to fishing, but that is one I don't think she would let me do. I just vacuum seal my shad and skip jacks. its a lot easier.

    You would need to brine them first, or they will spoil during drying. The will lose some of the oil though.

    if your tlking abotu the ones form like bass pro or wally world..THe ones in the plasti packages...They suck!!!They never catch fish!!
