I have belonged to the same hunting club for 22 years. We lease 1600 acres
of mostly timber company land. We have 28 game patches some an acre and
some just small spots in big timber. We have 14 members. We have a camp
house (more like a camp shack ) that keeps us warm and dry. We have a
bathroom with shower, an electric cook stove and a television. The house
is maybe 800 sq. ft. so for 14 men plus some guests its pretty crowded.
You learn that there are some members you can tell anything, some members
you can tell some things, and some members you don't tell anything. We have
one member that always hunts where the last big deer was killed. Two that
if they hear someone talking about seeing a lot of sign or seeing a good deer,
the next week they will have a stand in the area. They spend there season
on wild goose chases. One guy has a 4x4 pickup that could go anywhere
but it never leaves the camp house he don't want to get the under carriage
dirty, bad on the bearings. One guy has a 2 wheel pickup but he wants to
hunt on the worse roads on the property he spends his season mostly stuck
in the mud. One guy that would give you the shirt off his back, but at the
same time would knock his crippled mother down in a muddy ditch trying
to shoot a deer. When you get this many egos and emotions together there
is going to arguments, some near fights (never any blows). But mostly
pranks, and jokes. and above all laughter. I laugh more during deer season
than during the rest of the year combined. Its a time when responsible
men can pull off childish pranks and walk around in long handles and dirty
socks. Everyone watches a guy work putting on a pair of tall rubber boots
and then he has a fit and calls everybody names because someone put an
acorn in the toe of his boot. Don't ever say you don't like hot food. You will
starve or learn to eat hot food. Better carry some tums. All in All we have
a good time and take some good deer to.
I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GOOD DEER SEASON. HAVE FUN AND BE CAREFULL

That was a very nice read, makes me even more anxious for my camp. I understand the part about hot food, but I drew the line once when I found them putting onions & cayenne's in the biscuits.

Most of my camps consist of a couple buddies roughin it in a tent and tarps. Best food and company you'll find all year.

Deer camp is the greatest place on earth. I normally go to camp during our rifle season. That is in 3 weeks and I am pumped. Got a new wall tent and I am jacked up to go.
