What exactly is a wing dam? All dams look the same to me. I'm preety sure I know what a roller damn is.

A wing dam is pretty much just a jetty put in a river. It normally goes no more than halfway across. Hope this helps.

You will mostly see them in your larger rivers. The wing damn or dike or what ever you want to call it is used to force the water to clean out the channel in the river.

I fish mostly smaller rivers but have fished some locks on the ohio river.
