I just got back from Bass Pro Shops. I bought a Daiwa Opus 6000 spinning reel. It appears to be a decent made mid price reel. It has a 3.4 to 1 gear ratio, with a capacity of 220 yards of 30 pound monofilament. It should be a winch. It also has a instant anti-reverse, which is a feature I tend to look for, because you get a more consistent hook set. I also purchased a 7 foot ugly stick catfish rod in MH to mount it on. My cousin caught a 53 lb. flathead at santee on Opus 5500 with no problems, should be a great reel.

Well I got my first good catfish tonight on my Daiwa. A 45 pound blue. I posted a report and pic under member fishing reports, catch of the day thread. I have a feeling there will be many more to come on this outfit for years. Vern

Sounds like you got a pretty sweet deal there! I like Diawa. I have one of thier "SHOCK" combos and it works like a champ!
