I think that cut shad is the best bait I have found so far. What are your alls opinion on cut shad?
Cut shad is an awesome bait for catfishing. Usually when the water is colder in March and April I use cut bait like shad and alewifes. When the water warms up in the summer I'll switch to stinkbait like Sonny's or Cat Tracker for those channel cats. Cut shad has given me great results on larger cats, channels and flatheads. I even use the shad for wipers on my favorite lake to fish.
Cut shad is excellent bait. I prefer cut skipjack though. If you are fishing on the Ohio river shad or skips will do just fine.
I love catching skipjack when they are running on the Ohio.
I like shad and skipjack, but fish with shad more because I have more access to catching them.
Cut shad is an excellent bait as well as cut skipjack.Ive used both all winter long and had very good results. rspd507
I like cut shad too, blue gill cut works great too
I use a lot of frozen shad and it works well.
Hard to beat ,works great.
Fresh shad is an excellent bait. For years, I went fishing with no other bait in the boat, and caught lots of fish. But since I started going to Pickwick and stocking up on skipjack, I prefer them because they freeze much better than shad. Since the days when I fished with only shad, I've moved to another part of the state, and shad (and skipjack) are pretty hard to get around here. Having good bait in the freezer makes it much more convenient.
Ok I'll bite What the heck is wipers?:confused2:
Cut shad is real good for cats. I like bream the best and shad isn't far behind.
A Wiper is a white bass Striper hybrid. Wiper for short very fun to fish for.
Caught a 6 pound channel on cut shad about 4 days ago.
caught a 16 pound channel on shad the other night, it's my big fish for the year so far. you can't beat shad, in my experience.
Cut shad and whole shad have been most productive for me most of the time. Cut shad seems to get the first bite but whole shad usually catches me the bigger ones.
I will give it to ya that cut shad are the best bait for big blues, skip jack is really good to. But as far as shovelheads (flatheads) go i would have to say its a three way tie between live blue gills, crappie ,and live shad! But thats just for me!
I agree with ya. Every word.
Shad is great, but if you want a lot of catfish when weather gets warmer try raw shrimp, the larger the better. I am amazed there are no posts for shrimp- it is an amazing bait..
cut shad works great blue gill heads work real good too
