In my opinion, cut mackeral by far is the king of baits when fishing for channels, 99% of the largest channels I've ever caught were on this type of bait, I lived in Southern California most of my life, and recently moved to Indiana,:0a23:and mackeral is not as accessable as it was in SoCal, so now I use shad or creek chubs ( which now is my favorite since I can't get mackeral ) so if you have'nt tried it, and you can get it, give it a try. What do you think?

Yep, I agree Doug... if I am in a real pinch for bait I get mackeral at thefish market in town and use it for cut...works really good.
