My friend is coming from California in early June to fish with me and catfishcatcher on the Ohio, when I lived in Cali. we used alot of cut mackeral and just slammed the catfish, and was thinking about having him send some mackeral from Cali. a couple of days before he came to use for blues on the Ohio since skipjack were so elusive, has anyboby ever used mackeral for blues on the Ohio?:eek:oooh:

Skipjack is 1 of the best for blue cats. The only thing I have heard of thats even better for blues is a fish called a "mooneye". I have been told by a distinguished catman that MOONEYES are like cocaine to Blues.

I would give it a try. If he is driving he can bring it on dry ice, or reg ice. I tried some squid last summer in the midwest, didn't have much but it worked good. Maybe cause it was something new to em. I had some other stuff, but it didn't freeze too well and was too mushy to keep on the hook. Try it, good luck.

Hmmmm I may have to find me some skippies then. It had crossed my mind to use them before, but just assumed that since you didn't find them up here that other baits would work better.

Hey Bryan, that fish in the pic with your wife looks like a Drum, kinda small pic. Maybe you posted the wrong link.

Not in Ohio, but I have used mackeral cut into "shad size" pieces with success...
