Anyone been catching any skips at the steam plant in Cumberland city?
Tough, very tough !
Tough catching them or tough braving the weather?
They aren't in there very thick... so tough catching them. I could care less about the cold weather if I was catching fish. 10 hours worth of driving for a few skips is horrible.
I'm planning on going tomorrow morning. Did you go today or last week or when?
I was there Sunday but the reports from yesterday weren't much better.
Well I went this morning. The skips were in there but not thick. Stayed for about 2 hours and caught around 45.
That isn't too bad. I have seen good sized one 16 to 18 inch skip caught consistently and I have seen 12 to 14 inch skip caught. What would you say their size was?
Sunday (and yes there is a shad in there)
The ones I was catching today were smaller then the big ones we usually seem to catch in there. Probably 12 to 14 inch is closest to most of everything I caught today.
Is the water any clearer, I was there about 10 days ago and it was pretty muddy.
It was muddy today... and tough fishing again. We managed 94 between 2 adults and an 11 year old (who did quite well for himself even in the cold temps). Average size was bigger than last week but still not close to a limit even after fishing all day.
The mud seems to mess things up more than anything.
Pressure was 30.5 on Saturday. I'm guessing that played a big part of it.
Tuesday and Wednesday the skipjack were hitting good, 2 of us was able to catch our limit of 100 in 4 hrs both days. They were hitting good on the white sabaki's. The guy fishing next to me on Wed was using Shineee Hineee's and tearing them up.
Thinking about making a trip tomorrow or Monday. Y'all think they will still be there?
Not sure.... I know they were calling for more snow last Friday so I don't know if that will effect them or not
I ended up going Sunday. It was a little slow but not too bad. Caught about 60 in 3 hours. Had to really work for them though. They were hitting sibiki rigs better than anything else.
