Can I fish for catfish in a small creek? Or does it have to be a big creek like the Olentangy River?

I fly fish at Turkey Run and catch bluegill.
    Smallest: 3 in
    Biggest: 7 in

Could I find catfish there too?

    Welcome Katfishy;
Channel cats will often be in smaller creeks. I would try to locate the deeper holes and use night crawlers and chicken livers on the bottom. I'm not sure where your located at but the bluegill you are catching will also make good bait. Good Luck! :006:

Yes, you can catch sizable fish in a creek, especially the closer you get to the mouth of it where big fish like to roam in search of an easy meal.

I catch channels in a decent sized creek near my house all the time. Have pulled many 5-8 lbers out of it. I have also heard of decent sized flatties being pulled out. The title creek only has to do with length of the body of water. My best bait this year for the creek was chicken livers. I try crawlers but usually catch more turtles.

Sure you can catch catfish in a creek! I know of a few small creeks you can brealy cast without hitting the bank on the other side. Folks catch them in high numbers on these small creeks and the fish are good size.

Theres a creek, actually small river down the road, that that trout "Experts" say does not hold Flats & hardley any Channels, next year I want to prove them wrong. Tons of timber & deep banks, I think its' possible for some cats to be there.

    Thanks Man!
    I live in Upper Arlington.
    There's a creek about 1 1/2 feet deep.
    It's called Turkey Run.
It leads to the Scioto River.
There are heavy boulders smashed together on the sides of the creek.
There are little open areas next to them.
Catfish are probably hiding in the little cracks.
    Am I right or wrong?

    What kind of bait?
    Chunks of earthworm?
    Small minnows?
Chunks of chicken or chicken liver?

    Welcome to the BOC, Brother!!!

It would help if we had some more information on things like depth, current, time of day and location of any large hole for them to gather in.

As far as set ups you can use several: like the slip rig, which consists of, mainline, egg weight, barrel swivel, leader, and hook, in that order. In those conditions I would use a short leader(about 10in.) to keep from getting snagged so much.
Or you can use a three-way rig, which consists of, main line to the three-way swivel that you have a leader for your weight connected to and a leader for your hook also connected to it.
As for bait they have already told you that worms and livers are best in a creek fishing situation.

It will cut down some of the confusion if you were to fill out the rest of your profile and put up a profile pic(or avitar as they like to call them). This is a family type atmosphere and it makes it much easier to talk to someone if you can see who you are talkin to.
