Cut bait. I always use cut up bluegill in my crayfish traps.

When i was fishing on the river at sabine,i had some traps for crawfish and i used cheese,if you can find blocks of old cheese. The stores throw away sometimes ,ask around. Will catch fresh water shrimp too.

Oh I got you covered pal. Find the cheapest can of sardines (packed in oil works best) poke some holes in it and toss it in the trap. It works super but the perch like it a lot as well. Cans of dog or cat food work as well.

I ordered a crawfishtrap on Catfish Connection, is there prefered location to put the traps in? if you are fishing off the bank, can you just throw the trap into the water?

I would put it where you see some. If not, toss it in a small creek or around some rocks. They like to have a place to hide.

When I was a kid the best crawfish bait I ever used was bacon. Tie it on a string and you could pull them completely out of the water with it. The little boogers wouldn't let go. I would bet it would work really well in a crawfish trap.

We just use a can of cat food. Open with a church key in 5 or 6 palaces.

Don't make this harder than it is...a fish head from the last fish you cleaned will work as well as anything, better than most.

I use just a minnow trap for the store but i rigged up a bait basket on the top of it. i use to normally just throw my bait inside the trap and not get that many crawfish, but with bait basket on the top of the trap i caught alot more crawfish. i am usein bacon for bait but i plan on usein shad once i get some caught.
