I recently bought a crawfish trap and haven't had any luck catching any. I tried some salmon that had been in the freezer too long, also tried some catfood fish flavored. I had no luck with either. Anyone out their got ideas? Yeh, I know I can seine them but I thought the trap looked neat. So far I've caught a few mud minnows.

Best thing i've used has been raw chicken. Works well in the spring, never tried catching them this time of year.

Ok here's my secret bait for lobsters so this should work for the lil dad's.
Go to the oriental market pick up some macarel preferably pacific cut into chunks and stuff blood and everything else (meat and guts) in a ziplock bag.
Set in the son for 1 bull day in the bag then freeze in jello size cups lined with cheese cloth. set frozen trap preferably upsteam and come back the next day for a good load of mini lobsters.any stuff left refreeze.
    Enjoy

I always use whole cans of catfood or cheap tuna, it always fills the traps within 30 mins of being in the water...

Have had good results with a couple of strips of bacon.
Good luck and good fishing, and remember to leave some for seed.

I don't really set crawdad traps but catch them anyway by leaving my minnow trap in the water too long.
    have a good one

Fish offal has always worked for me. If I want crawdads for bait the back
bones and skins left over from the last mess of fish will do nicely. It's
interesting how one trip leads to the next that way. If it's been a while
since the last trip, dog food has worked as a backup plan and if it's not
her favorite brand my dog doesn't seem to mind.

Oily fish and range cubes that farmers feed to cows. If you know any cattle men they might give you a coffee can full if you ask nicely. Good luck.
