Went yard sale hunting and bought 3 spools for $2 anyone ever use this? I thought about tying it on for leaders to mono, is there a problem using braid for leaders and mono for main line?
I like to use braid as a leader when fishing live bait. It is very limp and lets the bait swim more naturally. However, I use the same lb test braid leader as the mono on the spool. As mentioned, if your leader is stronger than your running line, if your hook snags you will probably loose everything, depending on your rig.
I'd try it, especially for live bait. If you snag a lot, use it for backing under the mono!
I rarely get snagged at mt spot, and I always thought the leader should be the strongest part of your rig, it is the part that the fish encounters most.
Braid is as strong as it gets when it comes to a dead pull, but it is not abrasion resistant and will cut real easy making it a poor choice for leader lines but an excellent choice for your main line. Even the fishes mouth will damage it and may cut it before you land it.
