I fished yesterday and today. Caught 6 flatheads and a couple drum yesterday. Flats were two 12lbers, an 8lb, 7lb and two 4lbers. Today I caught a 30lb 10oz flathead, a 10lb 10oz flathead, two 4lb flatheads and a small blue. All were caught on cut shad. I had crappie heads, white bass heads and white bass chunks out for big fish. No luck on anything but shad. The 30lber hit a Kentucky rig with 2 pieces of shad about the size of a half dollar. I marked that big fish on the Humminbird and had big baits out for him but he hit the small bait on a smaller rod. FUN!!! Water temp was 60deg.

Thanks for the report Steve. Nice flatties too man! Funny how small baits do the trick sometimes.

I'm gonna have to try cut bait again. I think maybe the size of bait I was using was maybe to big. Silver dollar hize huh I'm gonna try that this spring.

Update on the flathead bite. I went yesterday and caught 13 flatheads in 4 1/2 hours. Biggest was 21lb, several in the teens and four 5-10 pounders. That was a fun day!

Here is a pic of what I was fishing at one spot. They were stacked in there.

What you cant see is the steep bank to my left with downed trees and root balls.

Congrats on a great day of flatty fishing! I've never caught that many in such a short time frame. What's your bait of choice this time of year?

All I have had luck on is cut shad or whole shad with the tail clipped off. I have offered crappie, drum, white bass, large mouth bass and bream with no takers.
