Hello, I am new to the forums. These are GREAT by the way! I am reading a LOT of good information to help me with my Flathead fishing.

I am considering purchasing from the Catfish Connection, a Abu Garcia 6500 CP - Catfish Pro Rocket. Would you recommend this as a great version of the 6500? I already have a 6000, 6500 and a 7000C4LD from Abu Garcia. I am looking at using this reel to compliment the others and use it more for working a 5"-6" "swimbait" while I have a perch on the bottom on another line.

Would you upgrade the drag or anything else on this reel to get it up to top shape?

Another reason I am looking for another reel and rod is that I have 4 kids and they are just starting to LOVE to fish for catfish so I need to add to the arsenal.

Thanks again for a GREAT website!

Thanks,
Darin

Welcome to USCA Darin, your good to go straight out of the box with this reel. There is no need for upgrades. It has a power handle and paddle handle. The better drag washers and it will cast, as all rockets do. I just bought one last year and I like it alot.

I have been using the 6500 and 7000 Pro Rockets for a few years now. Purchased from Catfish Connection. Both are great casting reels due to the dual controls. I don't see a need to do any upgrading. All I did was remove a couple casting blocks to increase my distance. Good luck.

You're going to spoil them kids!!!!:glasses-cool:
Well, hopefully in a good way.

My Dad let me use his AG 5000 when I was a kid and due to my stupidity, we both got to watch it and the rod it was attached to shoot into the water after a catfish nailed the waterdog I had just put on it. We never recovered that rod and reel.

Thanks,
Darin
