It has been two and a half months since my application and certificate were sent in to the OSBI. I got antsy and called yesterday to check the status. The woman told me that everything is good and I should recieve my permit in less than a week!

Congratulations and welcome to the carry & conceal club. I've had mine since I was 22 and a low rider did a drive by on my friend and I while out walking across a bridge. we used to go for walks in the evening for excerise. Luckily they only had paintball guns and hit the aluminum rail between the traffic and us but it sounded real at the time. Had I had mine. I'd have emptied a clip. while the case was being tried I stopped in to the sheriffs office @ the court house and got my carry permit and when the trial was over, I came home with a cz75 compact 9mm pistol. Its a good starter gun but a bit to large for summer carry.

    Dear Brother DeLarosa;
GOOD FOR YOU Daniel! If more of us folks that have common sense, {{Which is a rare and getting more so in today's World!:-( }} carried you would see a lot less crime and maybe some of those terrorists types would think a bit too!
Keep Up the GOOD work, remember to keep up on your State's CC Laws and when your carrying, Stay AWAY from those kinds of places where you should not be going if your carrying. That is, if you even consider going to those kinds of places. I'm guessing you don't!:wink:
One last thing! Practice, Practice, and Practice so you know your firearm inside and out and keep it clean too! Clean after every practice!!
Nuff Said. Besides, you already know all of the above!
Hope we meet in person some day!
    Fraternally and Cordially,

Congrats Daniel, you're lucky in Mississippi you wouldn't get your premit in any less than 120 days.4 months is a long time to wait.

Congrats ! Carry with honor and dignity. Here in Indiana we can now get lifetime carry permits. My wife got hers last month. Unfortunately, I cant get a lifetime until 30 days before my regular 4 yr. permit expires, which is the normal reapplication time here. I'm prayin that some bleeding heart activist dont get the laws changed before I get mine in 2010.

    Way to go Daniel!

I wish more good folks would get their permits. Wife and I have had ours for ten years.

Barry, I like hearing of your states lifetime permit! We need that in AR.

It great and I am going to get my wife in there to get hers soon. Like everyone has said more people should have them and I think less things would happen. In countrys where everyone carries, I want to say I heard green land or somewhere like that everyone carries and there is no crime compared to us. IT makes sense if I was a thief or a thug and knew everyone in the store was packin I think I would find a new profession.

I hate to say it, but I've been considering getting a gun as well. Now that I have a wife and soon will have a child, I don't want to take any chances. Unfortunately, there are too many idiots out there.

    Congratulations, Daniel

I've been thinking about it myself. Like a lot of other people, I live in the country and can't depend on response time of the deputies being good fast enough.

I've had a few problems over the years where I wished I'd had a handgun with me. I've bluffed my way out a couple of times, luckily, and one was not too long ago while I was out fishing.

I've always had loaded guns, we raised two daughters, they were taught about gun safety and use. I was also raised in a home with guns.

Yall complaining about how long it takes to get a permit....YOU'RE LUCKY!!!!! In maryland you cant get a concealed permit except by an act of God!! (well, almost). You have to be a police officer, a store owner or basically someone who handles lots of money from a business (i guess like the person who takes the deposit to the bank), or have 3 documented threats on your life from the same person in so many months. Most likely if someone is gonna threaten you 3 times in a few months, you'll be dead before you can try for a permit. We cant even open carry. They make you feel like a criminal if you do own a handgun. You can only take it from your house to a range or gunsmith, and then it has to be visible on the front seat. Its illegal to stop for gas with a handgun in the car!!! So please, dont complain about it taking so long, you could live in a communist state that wont even give them out! They wouldn't even give my cousin, who is a Marine, a concealed carry permit....someone who has qualed with a pistol and protects our country!

I'd love to have a handgun, but until i can carry it, theres just no point. I can keep an old beater shotgun in my truck and throw a couple shells in it if it gets too bad. I dont have to worry about being treated like a criminal that way.

Strange how the areas with the highest crime rates are the most difficult for law abiding people to carry a gun. Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, South LA. Only the cops and bad guys have guns, pretty comforting for the crooks. I've had a CCP for 35 years raised 2 sons and 2 nephews with guns always around.

My theory with boys at least is you can be a part of gun education or let them figure it out without adult supervision on their own. Ether way growing up boys will be exposed to guns if you want them to or not. Even if you don't own one. They go over to friends house and the teenage boy brain kicks in or out you could say. The old saying, one teenage boy= one brain, two teenage boys= 1/2 brain, three teenage boys= NO BRAIN AT ALL! You ex-teenage boys know what I'm talking about.

Kansas just passed the law so that we can conceal and carry.I am tempted to get one.Too many times I have ran into punks and drunks out on the river wished Id had one, just in case. With all the meth and crack heads these days you arent safe anywhere.Hell most meth labs are in the country.A lot of times my wife is with me and its just us two and a group of guys come up out of nowhere.Thank God nothing serious has happened but you never know.It so sad.Im not very old but I can remember when you could fish in peace and not worry about someone tryin to rob ya or worse.Congratulatons by the Way!

    Hi Folks,
You need to think about this, I have a CCW. If you go though all the procedures and you out with your family if the worst case comes to you. You can hopefully take care of it. If you are carring and you havent, your are putting yourself in a position that even if your right your wrong. Just do it.
If not leave it at home.

Dont be a perp, be a citizen use your 2nd amendment rights.
    DO THE RIGHT THING.

I attended one of the first CCL classes available in our area, submitted my application asap, from start to receipt was around 6 weeks(?) It was expensive but I feel it was worth it, always carried anyway.
As some have stated, if you do carry, be prepared to use it if the situation demands it, or don't carry.
I looked up the latest statistics on carrying in Kansas, the majority are men between 50 and 70 years old, and women in the same age group are next. There are two 80+ year old men, and one women who have a CCL.
Kansas has 11,000+ licensed folks to carry a gun.
