(Clonking for Catfish) I broke down and acquired

....a clonk.

I know... I know... should have spent my money on something like new circle hooks or possibly something for my girlfriend lady, but I just have to know if it remotely works for BIG flatheads... and/or little flatheads....and/or WORLD RECORD flatheads....

I just gotta know. It's one of those South Dakota things. You just have to try something yourself to truly understand what people are talking about. The first time I used a Looper rig, it was pure magic, and has been ever since. The concoctions I put on the rig vary, but the timeless rig always brings big (and little) channels near my neck of the woods, or weeds, in some cases....

If I clonk a flathead this coming weekend, after I get rid of this Swine Flu, I'll post it for everyone to see. I'm like that. I like to present evidence when things work the way they should work.

If only my girlfriend lady thought the same... *sigh* :D

James you may very well be the first BOC member to give us a report on the Clonks use in the USA. Hope things work out for ya. Keep us posted.
My brother and I have one, and it has produced bites by flatheads and blues over the past three times we used it.
The CLONK!! It's our secret weapon. We used it the weekend that we got it and caught four flatheads between 8-16 pounds and I caught a twenty-five pound blue using it also. You have to make sure you use live bait though. I usually tear em up on my livers and they didn't even get touched. Good Luck Fishin Brothers!! ;)

Favorite Catfish line (isn't mine): "A hookset 'aint a hookset unless you throw your back out, lose your balance, fall into the bonfire, stagger to your feet and reel in a pair of lips....."
It's like a bonk on the head! :p

Only it's a clonk on a catfish!
It's a catfish caller. It was used originally in Europe on the Wells Catfish. People were unsure that it would work on our catfish here, but with the results the we had it's hard to say it didn't. It is shaped like a boomerang and you hit the water a certain way, and it sends a sound of fish feeding through the water.
Does it work in a river with a strong current?
I've never heard of a clonk until now. I read the article, and it sounds pretty interesting. Just may have to invest in one.
I bought mine from the fine folks that advertise on this site: MegaCatCrew.com

http://megacatcrew.com/clonk.html

YOU may buy yours there, if you wish, or from other fine retailers across the country.

Best,

James
....get a free Clonk for my bro for this plug eh? ;)

Looks like I'll push some traffic to ol' Mega Cat for a while.... :D

Ok, I'm done with the smilies. You may all continue fishing....

No cat (or clonk) was hurt in the making of this e-mail,

J.
i have a video of denny fishing the rock for flatheads. they caught several fish during the day and a 61#er just at dusk. (the largest on video) and they went 3 hrs without a bite and denny brought out the clonk. within 3 min they had a strike and it was 30ish#. i wondered why noone had been talking on here about em. i guy in sterling illinois makes them. im gonna try em soom.
Several years ago we had a company donate some to the BOC and i was one of the members chosed to do a product test. It didn't work at all for me. I used it several times, and never got a bite at all. Maybe the lake i was fishing just wasn't productive enough.
ok!!!!!!! i was just amazed. i said that the 61#er was the largest on video. true. flathead that is. look in the wels section and download the video. it took me an hour to download the 2.24 min vid clip but a 2.46meter fish. god that was amazing. it pulled the boat around like a minn kota 70# thrust. my goodness. scary.
If I remember correctly verotik it was you and another member from NC. He also claimed to have no results, well, not any good ones that is. Who knows, maybe some here will have some luck, keep splashing the water and let us know. As for that video, I'm not claiming it's false but I know how much those things get edited and 3 days can be made to look like 3 minutes! I would be trying to make it appear as if it worked too if I was getting paid to peddle it! If it works, great, I'd just like to see some proof of it first!
the flathead video didn't show them using it. just said they used it and a fish hit. they may not have even used it. that i don't know. donnie. if ya ain't seen that wels video go to the wels thread and download it. its awesome. that ain't fake. thats one hell of a fish. i posted that just after seeing it. its amazing.
When you buy a clonk, it comes with an instructional video that has two 60+ pound flatheads caught on it while using the clonk. I don't recall the guys name that was guiding the boat, but he was with a woman and they were fishing the Rock River in Illinois. I have had success with it on lakes, but have not had a chance to use it in any current. It is advertised to increase your chances of catching a large flathead. With that said, you could throw just about anything in the water and claim that it has increased your odds. I have caught flatheads while using it and blues as well. It does make a unique sound when used correctly, but trying to figure out how a fish thinks is tough. If nothing else, after setting for hours and not catching anything, it's kind of fun to pull it out like a secret weapon!
Ok, clonked in the morning 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the afternoon 2:00 - 4:00 PM , and night from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM. This clonking was done with no supervision, so be aware. No state violations were broken in the clonking process. I did clonk myself in the leg after seemingly going into a sugar coma at 11:00 PM one night... but that's another story....

Friday, September 30th, fish caught using clonk after pitching out the bait (suckers, shrimp, nightcrawlers, and cut bait):

4 sheephead (on shrimp and nightcrawlers)
1 flathead 15 lbs (on a one-foot sucker)
5 channels (on a moderate sized sucker, and the rest on fresh shrimp)

Diiachi 10/0 Improved Bleeding Circles were used with 20 lb Berkeley Big Game Solar. Fishing the Des Moines River near Jackson, Minnesota.

Saturday, October 1st, fish caught after pitching out the bait and then using clonk:

1 - 18 lb flathead
3 channels

Sunday, October 2nd, using clonk landed me:

My girlfriend.... She gave a huge fight and proceeded to land a 25 lb flathead after falling into the river. Completely soaked wet, smiling, with a handful of a huge catfish. Don't know if we can upload that pic though on this site. If this was a wet t-shirt contest type of website, maybe, but this is a family website, so we might just have to show the fish only.

That's my report. It seems to work. Five other people just put in their orders for one upon my girlfriend giving them the lowdown.

Anywho, I would recommend buying one, testing it out on your bodies of water, and then writing your experiences on this forum. We'd love to see them.

Take care,

James
