My son lives in Desoto and I hardly ever get to see him since he discovered wimin. I was wondering where is a good place to bank fish there? I'm hoping to get to fish with him some time this summer.

Sorry Jeff, can't help you here. The only thing I know about Desoto is that's the name of a car they made back in the 40 and 50's.:eek:oooh:

bank fish at clinton lake? under the both bridges, rock creek and the wakarusea river channel, bloominton area does pretty ok for channels or on the other side you got coon creek and deer creek the mouths of those work out well for decent cats

Tom f. has good suggestions for clinton.

I'm not sure if it is accessible but from an overhead view, the Kansas river runs right along the north side of desoto. you might find a fishin hole there.

In fact there are two boat ramps to the Kansas River at Desoto. One is just east of there at Cedar Creek, the other is just west of town. If you hike around a little bit from either ramp you can find some decent fishing spots.

If you have access to the Kansas River, remember that it is the single most
productive body of water in the state for catfish of all sizes. If you know a
five mile stretch of the river well, there won't be many days you go home
empty handed unless you throw them all back.

unless that five mile strecth happens to be the desoto area of the kaw. pee poor fishing in there at least that has been my take on it.

I gotta admit, I don't know that stretch of the river, Tom! There are a lot
of records that have been pulled out of the Kansas River, I have heard.
Certainly worth poking around to see what is there with your son in tow.

You may catch them there but I'm not eating anything that comes out of there Michael.

i dont know exacly what u are going for but spring into early summer at coon creek on clinton is a channel cats man dream. every time i went there caught loads of cats about 2-5 pounds. then it dries up, the clinton spillway is good for channels and some flats, just go at night lots of people during the day, better fishing and most people that are there ant fishing for big cats so it doesnt get fished out as much as u think it would, but if the water ant runnin dont bother. thats the best i can do for ya with what little knowlage i have. i live in lawrence and plan on spending alot of time on the kansas river this year so if i find any honeyholes i will let u know. good luck

In all seriousness, I've caught many nice flatheads and a few nice blues in that section of the river, you just need to find your spots and fish them. The areas near the boat ramps are a good place to start.
