Hey brother I have cingular and I will tell you I havent had a problem with them at all. I used to have sprint and I would never recommend them I thought sprint was terrible. Cingular has done right by me everytime but I havent really had a problem with them either.

thinking of doing the same with nextel. its $110 a month for me and wifes phones. unlinited 2 way but only 200 shared min.

heck cingular has $39 AND LIKE $9.99 ADD A LINE. thats 50. compared to $110. nextel is loosing me fast.

they took 2 weeks to get me a phone after the 2 wat button quit working. i had to use the phone for work instead of 2 way. the reason i got unlim 2way. then sent me A $250 BILL. we called to explain and they didn't want to credit it. we got pretty rude and talked to a manager. he credited it down to $110 like usual.

think thats great hugh. then on the next bill it had the extra on it. we called again. "sorry i don't see any credit on here" she said. so we threw a fit and they said they would review it. then we asked for names to verify it and a reference #. they finally credited it. but after that bull and two junk phones in 3 years we pretty much told them we wanted to know when the contracts were up cause there coustomer service is at the bottom of the toilet and we are getting rid of them allong with my grandma. thier l;oosing 3 here.

plus i pay $5 a month for insurance. then when the new phone i had quit working after 8 months (the 2 way button) they gave me a remanufactured phone and i watched them stick my old batt in it and handed it to me. no charger or nothing and charged me $35. thats like paying full coverade on a 2005 pickup and ya wreck it and they give ya a 78 to replace it. nextel IMO is like gar. they are great till ya find out what ya got. :cursing:

Febuary is when my 2 year contract with Cingular is up. I will be leaving Cingular and never looking back. My wife and I both have phones through Cingular. There are 4 places in town where we know that it is useless to use our phones. Pretty sad that one of the places is on the main highway between Owasso (where we live) and Tulsa (where I work). It is a whole 8 miles between the two towns, and 4 of it we can't use our phones. I have reported it to Cingular at least 30 times. At first we were told that it was our phones programming. Then they blamed the AT&T Wireless merger. Then I was told that they didn't have enough towers. Now I'm tol that they don't have anyone else complaining about it, so it must be our phones. Oh, but they have a $200 dollar phone that gets better reception than our phones and they would be happy to sell it to me. Not only that, but 6 months after we got our phones, my wifes phone started shutting itself off. still under warranty. She took it in to one of the stores, and the sales rep told her that her phone COULDN'T be under warranty, because Cingular stopped selling that phone over a year ago.

After a 2 hour phone call with customer service, talking to a rep, a supervisor, a manager, and then the manager's manager, I finally managed to get another phone number to contact for Cingular Warranty issues.
Another 30 min phone call, and they finally agreed to replace my wifes phone.

Needless to say I am not very pleased with Cingular. In my area, their service DEFFINATELY is not the best. However, when purchasing cellular service, the area that you are in makes a huge differance as to which companies have good service and which ones don't.

My sister in law had Cingular and she opted to go with the contract the sales guy recommended, no long distance/no roaming, etc. She had them set up on automatic bill pay so the bill amount was automatically deducted from her bank account. For the 4 previous years, the bill was always around $80 a month. First debit from her account for the new contract was $1200. Apparently the guy at the store where she got the new contract was mistaken, there were roaming and long distance fees. Needless to say, they credited her back $400 on the next bill and she ate the other $800. Didn't matter what the sales rep SAID, she should have read the contract, was the answer. Thats true, I guess, but the mortgage on my house had less pages and lots bigger print than those contracts. I think it just depends what customer service rep you get when you call. I've had bad luck with about all of them to one degree or another.

tdawg i've had horrible experiences with verizon .. there were my first cell phone company but poor reception and customer service drove me away and i actually paid the termination fee to get away .. i switched to at&t and absolutely loved it .. when i moved here however my reception was pretty bad and no one knew why .. so back to verizon i went when my contract ran out .. it seems this merger with cingular has increased reception in this area .. i'm once again dealing with boneheads at verizon unwilling to cooperate in me getting a phone that's essential for my business .. so i'm again going to probably pay the termination fee to get out .. this time i don't think i'm ever going back .. with all the towers going up everywhere for all these different companies its getting easier and easier to get away to another company when you're putting up with bullcrap

pricing is comparable between verizon and cingular from what i found .. both are 89 a month for a family share plan with 1400 minutes .. plus verizon wants me to pay $500 for this new phone that i can get for free if i sign up with a new cingular plan .. i can get it online for like $200 but they're refusing to activate it for me so i can stay with them

seems customer service does not exist with the cell phone companies

I've had cingular for about 4 years. There's a lot of little spots where there is no reception, but it's probably still better than the rest. Just make sure your plan includes no charge for long distance and roaming.

We have the nationwide plan. $39.95 for one phone and 19.95 for the second with 450 daytime shared minutes and 5,000 night and weekend minutes and rollover for unused minutes. It comes out to about $72.00 per month after all the hidden charges and taxes are added on.

Tank - ask them for a demo unit first so see if you get reception where you go - up here in northern IL the reception is poor at best - may be ok in your area - a friend signed a contract, then disconected his home phone before he checked it out and can't talk from his home LOL HaHaHa!!!!!!!!!!

well in the lil town of waynesville we had ok service because we were just south of bloomington. 90,000 with normal being with it. then a month ago poop happens. service went to the pit of hades. a fella from town called nextel. oh. they shut down the tower outside of atlanta. thats 6 mi from us. seems they just don't care about small town folk. i can talk from bloomington to freaking alaska. but trying to talk to my wife from the garage to the house. pricless. are ya there. hugh????? hugh??????? your breaking up????????? are ya under water??????????? forget it???????????

don't go nextel unless in a big town where they will have a tower. coast to coast except in small towns. thier laughing all the way to the bank. except next month on the way to the bank they will not have my check in the deposit bag.

top it all of they bought out nascar winston cup and screwed it all up too. it will always be winston to me. :D

I'm having wonderful results with US Cellular  I'm good for the whole state of Illinois except the southern tip and it's all in normal service range. Except when I'm 15 miles from home after leaving the lake after a night of fishing, and it mysteriously goes to roam. Verizon was no better, and Nextel just stinks in small towns like Jeremy said.

I've had TMoblie for a year now and I like it alot better than Sprint. The service is better, Fewer dropped calls. Free Phones when you join, and upgrades every year after, and probably the cheapest family plan around.

I have had a cingular phone for a while now and i have mixed feelings about the company. I really liked AT&T befor ethey merged with cingular, but the new Cingular/AT&T just does not seem to have the range that AT&T had. The plans are good, but I think they need to finish incorporating the AT&T towers before their range will be what it needs.

I have had cingular for about 6 years now. I still have no problems with them. I do have a tower about 1 mile from my house though. That makes a difference. Also good local service. That is the main reason.

I really aint got much advice on cell phones, except I had enough of mine. Here is my expericance with CP. Both my Sons have tried just about every CO around. They have had and still are having same O problems everybody else has. I think they are with sprint now. I would like to have a CP for emergencies but I got really sick of mine a few years back and got rid of it. Hadn't had one since and I don't regret it. All I wanted was a plain cell phone, no extra's.

I think much of the problem with CP is they added text messaging, internet, pic's, about a thousand different sounds, games etc. . that takes up signal resources while using one. look at all the people who use that stuff. No wonder one can't make a clear call. Thats not a phone, its more like a leather man all in one tool, a Swiss army knife that can sometimes make a call, if your lucky. LOL.

I first started with Altel. Never had a problem for 4-5 years, same plan, same phone.. I think that's how long I had it. Always clear, picked up when others didn't. Anywhere I was at, I could make clear calls. It didn't do anything but make and receive calls with bout 5 different sounds to choose from. Never a billing problem.

Anyway, we decided to up grade ( big mistake ) which they required new phones that had everything except pic's. . The salesman even said he didn't see how we was still using the one we had. LOL. He was about 23 years old and I guess needed all the bells and whistles. LOL. I told him all I use it for is very few calls. He looked like I was way out of date and didn't understand what all one can do on a CP. LOL.
For a year after that, our bill was never right. Most likely due to employees. When it came to fixing a bill problem, could never get it right. Every month we would show em our contract and plan, they had to make adjustments to our bill cause of mistakes on their part.
Just too much trouble for me. Plus, once we did the upgrade and was given new phones, over half the calls, we couldn't get through are they was not clear. I had enough of it. My phone is at the bottom of the lake. Be amazed how for one can chuck one of those things when a little upset. LOL. Best move I ever made. LOL.

I wanted my wife to have one cause of all the crime in our area. About a year ago She got on my Sons plan for an extra $10.00. Her phone is a piece of junk. I talk on it sometimes and can't hear, it cuts out etc. Last time I used it, I wanted to chuck the thing.
Now she turns it off when around me and if one of my Sons calls on it for me, she has to do the talking cause I don't want to fight the, can ya hear me now. LOL. I don't even care much for land line phones. I use to think technology was great but now I think its used in many wrong ways and
quality has gone down to where its more trouble than its worth. I guess if one paid a very high price, they might be better service.

One day I may wish I still had one. When that heart attack comes while I'm on the bank, fishing. Actually, if I couldn't get through to 911 cause of, "can you hear me now", my BP would go up and finish me off. LOL.
Good luck to you guys with finding quality service. I couldn't so I got tired of paying. One day I may change my mind and get me another one. For now, I don't think they are worth the trouble.

i have cingular for about 4 years now and get reception everywhere i been so far except inside of the work truck once in awhile.Says there is no service, then i step outside(right next to the truck) and whammo.......service is back!
Go figure,it must be all the aluminumumumum on the truck?

Definitely go for the nationwide thingy, especially if your useing it for work and would think there is some travelin involved in real estate. Here in Nj with the local plan i am covered in ALL of Pennsylvania and southern NJ but if i go 10 miles above my home i'd get charged extra for roaming.Needless to say i went with nationwide for 49.99 a month, and monthly bill is 69 bux a month.
Now,thats with a 10 dollar add a phone for the wife 5 bux for insurance on the 1 phone and here in NJ they tax yes tax you for cell phone service or some crap like that so thats where the rest of it goes for.

Now the service of the phone i never really had a problem with but,the thing that got me (besides the loooooooooooooong wait for someone to actually answere your call and the touch 1 if you speak english bull****),
was dropping the phone and it went blank, nothing,no lights no whistles not a thing.I figured what the heck i got insurance right,LOL guess again!
After getting through i was told there is a deductible on getting a new phone and would have to pay something like 100 bux or so........hell i got the 1st phone for a penny and this new one was a freebie!
After charging the phone for a day and leaving it off it finally came back and works fine but definitely read up on the service contract and the insurance paperwork also!

Oh yeah, this new phone they sent me was free even has a lil camera thingy in it,thought how cool i could takle pics of all the gigantuan fish i catch right,HA guess again if i want to send an e mail of a pic or even store a picture to my computer i would have to pay more money to get a internet update thing a majig. So i justr save em to the phone and leave em there. And NO you can't go in to a cingular store and ask them to print a picture out to see if it is what you like and would consider purchasing it after viewing the picture. They won't do it. LOL

i went with verizon because NOBODY ELSE PICKS UP ON The mountain where i live! i have asked at&t cingular, nextel and NONE of them have towers in this area and have no interest in putting any up too soon.the local cell phone company charges OUTRAGeously high prices and the phone doesnt work anywhere but up here! my mom lives in chattanooga and i needed a phone for the chattanooga area and the trenton/flat rock area and verizon was the ONLY one i could go with without a downpayment on a new car for a years worth of crappy service and no reception lol verizon has its bad spots mainly around areas with lots of trees lol so in no way are they perfect but sometimes the not so perfect service gets the customers lol by the way i wish you all great luck with your phones and service and hope nobody else has to SETTLE for something they really wouldnt want lol

i would really like it if verizon had a two-way radio feature like nextel then i could save minutes to a lot of people.
