Chum for catfish

    My Dad used to tell me that the best chum for catfish was Louisiana twist tobacco. He said the way to use was as follows;
    You crush the the dried tobacco leaf and spread it on the water and the catfish will eat it.
    Then you get yourself a good stout stick and wait. When the catfish comes up to spit you whack him with the stick.

    I got a good laugh from that one but seriously I do chum for catfish & think that it is beneficial in bringing them in, especially if your not in the "spot" JMHO, Elliot

    I know chumming for cats works unfortunately it's illegal to chum in fresh water here in Ca. I know of plenty of people that talk about baiting a hole, but I do not do this personally.

    Its not illegal here in Texas to chum and it helps bring them in for me. I like to ferment/sour milo for a month and the ripe smell it brings seem to bring them in.
