Hey guys, check out the flathead I got last Thursday night at the mill, 46lbs got it on fresh cut shad while fishing for channels. Pics are not the best, only had a camera phone. After a few quick pics, I released it right back where i got it. was fishing by the bridge on 430 on the dam side. Shad were everywhere thursday, mostly small ones thought, and the channels were not biting.

Congratulations on a nice fish, glad to hear it was released. I was beginning to doubt that there were any flatheads in Charles Mill. How was the water level? The last time I was there it was 7' over normal level.

    Hi,
I'm sorta new to the posts on this and other sites, but I wanted to ask a question of members...

I have used AGarcia bait reels, and others, but my current favorite for big cats is a Okuma, ABF 90 casting reel. It is the biggest they offer, holds 330 yrds of 30 lb test, has 7 ball bearings, and a real smooth operation.

The thing I like about it the most is that it has two drags, the primary, on the front, and a bait drag, on the rear.. After casting, set your bait drag as you want... once it is taken, you can flip it off, or just crank the handle, and it flips off, and your main drag takes over... I love this feature..

Plus, it's reasonably priced. I have two matching.. and no, I don't work, get anything from Okuma, I just love this reel...

Has anyone else had any experience with this, and what do you think of it ?
I have used it for 40 lb flathead, and 25 lb, and some teens.. but never tested it on a 50-60 lb one.. I think it would do well, though...

Anyway, my first post on this site..

    thanks,

Welcome to the BOC Gerry! I have never used the reel you asked about but you might get a better response asking about it in the reels section on the main page of the site.
